A Dorm, a Microwave and You
If you are a college student you probably aren’t known for your cooking skills nor do you have the time for it. What you do probably have though is a microwave. If you live on campus you might have a meal plan, but they can be costly, the food is hit and miss and let’s face it, it’s 1:00 A.M. and you are going to be up all night studying for that final you have the next day, and the cafeteria is closed. You need nourishment ASAP. So here are some essential and cheap and ways to not starve.
Ramen noodles top the list. Okay, this shouldn’t even be on the list because everyone knows about them, it’s a no-brainer. Still, there were times I lived off these noodles and at 50 cents a pop, they aren’t too bad, just add water and get ready for a little MSG. They even have multiple flavors and if you are feeling really creative you can search online and find recipes to mix them into salads or bake them into casseroles but who would want to ruin them like that? For a nutritional education try college degree online today.
Frozen foods are another great option. I’m talking about the Costco sized stuff you can buy and nuke for a quick meal. My personal favorites always included corny dogs (add ketchup for more fun), burritos and taquitos, but there are plenty of others if you get bored.
If you grew up in America, you undoubtedly grew up on breakfast cereal. You probably can’t afford a lot of name brands, but a big bag of knock off Lucky Charms can really hit the spot in the morning, or night, and last quite some time. Who wouldn’t want to sit down to a nice bowl of Apple Dapples or Crispy Hexagons. Every grocery store in America has them and part of the fun is figuring out exactly what cereal they are really supposed to be. It is also a great way to eat all the junk cereals your mom wouldn’t let you try when you were a kid.
Also going back to your youthful lunch box days is the sandwich. Bread is cheap, and most of the stuff you put in between is too. Especially if you like peanut butter and jelly, and if you are a science major type there are dozens of sandwiches to experiment with. Mix it up, use crunchy butter or apricot jelly. It could be amazing.
Lastly, look for deals at local restaurants and bars. Seriously, they love college students and at any given point in time, on any given day, there is a $4 burger and drink deal going on somewhere. We even used to have it all charted out and memorized.
There you have, some quick, cheap and easy ways to grub at school. Is it healthy? Barely, but then again you are young and in COLLEGE, you will be fine and getting good home cooked meals and clean laundry is what your parents use to lure you into visiting them.
After the army continue your education at university military.
