Do We Need Renewable and Solar Energy

In a time when the major nations of the world are looking to find more sustainable energy sources, renewable energy must play a key part of any long term strategy. Renewable energy comes from natural sources such as the sun, wind power, wave energy, geothermal, biomass and hydroelectric power.

Sustainable energy sources are attracting increased attention due to the scarcity of fossil fuels. The value and cost of non-renewable energy sources is rising due to the high demand to support our current way of living, with the reduced supply of these sources.

Garnering energy from the sun is the most widely used technique to produce renewable power, as it is constant and powerful form used across the globe. There are two techniques to retain and convert it into energy – thermal and photovoltaic. Converting sunlight in to heat is the thermal technique. Applying this heat to a steam generator enabling us to warm buildings, heat water and generate electricity. Photovoltaic power is a technique using solar cells. An electrical current is created when sunlight strikes the semiconductor material. Concentrated power plants, solar towers and portable solar are other technologies which harness the sun’s power.

Collection of solar energy can be undertaken anywhere in the world; however, localities on or near the equator can leverage more due to proximity and daylight hours. Solar energy have preferable qualities compared to use of fossil fuels, for example is that it will be constantly available throughout time, environmentally friendly and relatively easy to maintain. Problematic issues include factors solar energy is restrictive for locations near the poles of the earth, cloud cover can reduce efficiency and PV cells are relatively expensive.

These sustainable energy sources are important to industrial and domestic users. Large and small organizations are able to use these technologies to diversify their energy sources, improve efficiency and cut overhead costs. Renewable power can effectively support different applications and operations. Production of electricity, heat, steam, lighting, cooling, water heating and mechanical energy are examples of where renewable energy can power every day necessities.

Alternative energy sources are being increasingly used by developers and utilities providers, to produce sustainable power for villages, small towns and cities. It is clear that over the last few decades, increasing energy demands, environmental problems and declining fossil fuels have made us look at alternative, more sustainable energy options.

Different types of renewable power technologies are used in different parts of the world, depending on climatic conditions. It is seen that the United States have more solar power plants, Europe has more wind power plants and China has the most hydroelectric power plants.

Using renewable energy is key to sustainably fueling our homes in the future. For expert advice on Renewable Energy Scotland and Solar panels Glasgow contact Absolute Solar and Wind.
