Free Football Picks For 2011 NFL Season
With news reports hinting at an imminent deal to be struck between the NFL and the Players Association, thus saving the 2011 football season, now would seem to be a good time to provide some free football picks for fans. Many NFL observers have lamented the fact that the lockout has caused the attention to be diverted for the game itself and instead focused on the myriad courtroom battles between the two sides. However, here are a few things to look forward to on the gridiron.
2011 may just be the year of the comeback. After retiring three years ago, former New York Giants running back Tiki Barber has been seen at former training facility looking to get in shape and return to the field.
Barber was a legend in the Big Apple, but retired one year before the Giants won the Super Bowl versus the New England Patriots. This left a bitter taste in Barber’s mouth, and he responded by ripping his former teammates and coaches on air while covering the club as a sideline reporter for NBC. Many fans have now begin to despise this former all-pro, so Barber has a lot of work to do to gain the trust of his supports back if his comeback is to be successful.
Another former all-star attempting a comeback in 2011 is wide receiver Terrell Owens. Owens has bounced around the league over the past three years, going from Dallas, to Buffalo, and ending up in Cincinnati with the Bengals last season. Owens has a regrettable propensity to wear out his welcome in his new towns very quickly.
In Cincinnati last season, Owens was joined at the wide receiver position by Chad Johnson, and many experts predicted the duo would enjoy great success together. However, the season was an unmitigated failure for the Bengals, as they finished out of the playoffs. Owens suffered a torn ACL in his knee, a devastating injury known to have ended careers in the past. But Owens has said he will be ready for training camp, so it will be interesting to see if a team takes a flyer on him.
However, as several players have been attempting comebacks from age and injuries, one player who will not be among them on that list is quarterback Brett Favre. After injuries derailed his 2010 season in Minnesota with the Vikings, Favre informed the organization that he would not be returning for a third season with the club. Instead, the future Hall of Famer will retire for the third time, ending an impressive career which included one Super Bowl championship and countless Pro Bowl appearances.
There are many stories to follow as the 2011 NFL season kicks off in September. There are many new head coaches in the league this year, and the question of everyone’s mind is how they will fare with their respective clubs. Additionally, which team will finish last this season and have the ability to select Stanford University standout Andrew Luck with the first pick in the rookie draft next April.
