Keeping Time With Family Is Better For Your Emotional Well Being

People ought to shut off their computers and TVs if only to spend further quality time with their household members. As time spent by family members on the computer and TV increases, family time continues to suffer. The outcome of research on American families show that household members are spending a lesser amount of time with other household members. Usually, an internet user spends 3 hours online each day, while viewers spend an average of 1.7 hours on a daily basis watching Television.

The emergence of social networking technology little by little changes the definition of “friendship”. As opposed to family members being attentive to one another, they are immersed with their online contacts. This results in families whose members are not paying attention to each other. Potential leaders and responsible people are brought up in the home. The home is where children gain knowledge of the ideals of trust, support, kindness, and how to cope with anger, loss, embarrassment, etc. In the home, adults give children emotional support and act as competent role models.

Nothing can take the status of the home as an emotional cradle. Today, many teenagers behave as if they are clever, but a lot of them need emotional intelligence. To simplify things, a lot of them do not grasp how to “understand” others or even their own selves. Emotional intelligence refers to a person’s aptitude to recognize, interpret, and manage his or her own emotions. One can only become skilled at these if he or she is given the time to live, work, and play with actual people.

In many families these days, members exhaust increasingly more time either with their online friends or their Television news and superheroes. A 2004 survey on internet use confirmed an association involving spending time online and time spent with the family. Surprisingly, it was discovered that family members are denied an average of 23.5 minutes by a user for every hour he or she spends online daily. The typical surfer also will get a reduced amount of sleep by about 8.5 minutes per day for each hour he or she spends on the internet.

Online contacts or games and Television programs should not take over the actual people that family members reside with. Family members should attempt to spend more time with “actual” friends in their houses. There are simple and reasonably priced ways of family bonding. Getting together around the dinner table and taking a reasonably priced family trip are good examples. Families grow more cohesiveness when members interrelate in person more often. Members get to be familiar with one another better, and will come to appreciate each others real interests and get to identify what they think and feel.

Typically I don’t write about spending time with friends and family. I’m so busy writing about surfing with an anonymous proxy to protect your Internet privacy that I tend not spend time with my own family and friends. So I decided I would write this article and then unhook for awhile.
