It’s this increase that causes you to burn extra calories all through the day – not only when you’re exercising. If you’re sitting reading a book, listening to the radio, watching TV, doing the housework – then you will use up extra calories. Even when you’re tucked up in bed, fast asleep, you will burn extra calories. That’s what helps you to lose weight fast.

Walking is a low intensity, low impact, low injury risk exercise technique. It’s something which requires no special equipment or training and which you already know how to do. You can fit it into your daily schedule whenever it suits you best. You don’t need to make the time to visit the gym – just leave the car in the garage and walk to work, get off the bus one or two stops earlier than usual, take a walk at lunchtime instead of sitting in front of your computer, take the stairs instead of using the elevator – there are plenty of opportunities to gently increase the amount of walking that you do each day.

You can use an mp3 player when you’re walking to help the time and the miles fly by. You can monitor your progress by using a pedometer which will display results in terms of distance covered, the number of steps taken or the amount of calories burned. It may help you to keep your motivational levels high.
