Discussing MCSA Training in 2009
The Microsoft MCSA (Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator) course is a great basis for those thinking of getting into network support. Whether you want to get going or already have knowledge but need to formalise your skills with a good qualification, it’s possible to achieve your goals with the right training. To qualify at the MCSA level it’s necessary to achieve pass marks in four MCP’s (Microsoft Certified Professional exams). If you’re new to IT, you’ll probably need to learn a few things before attempting to go for all four MCP’s. Search for a training organisation that has industry experts who can guide you towards the ideal program for you and can match your current skills to the right level of course.
If the UK computer sector provides such an array of superb career possibilities for everyone – which questions do we need to ask and what aspects should we be considering?
An all too common mistake that potential students often succumb to is to concentrate on the course itself, instead of focusing on the desired end-result. Universities have thousands of direction-less students that chose an ‘interesting’ course – rather than what would get them the career they desired. It’s an awful thing, but the majority of trainees commence training that sounds wonderful from the marketing materials, but which delivers a career that is of no interest. Talk to many university students to see what we mean.
You need to keep your eye on where you want to go, and formulate your training based on that – avoid getting them back-to-front. Stay on target and ensure that you’re training for an end-result you’ll still be enjoying many years from now. Talk to an experienced professional who has a background in the industry you’re considering, and is able to give you a detailed run-down of what to expect in that role. Researching these areas long before beginning a study course makes a lot of sense, doesn’t it?
It’s so important to understand this key point: It’s essential to obtain proper 24×7 round-the-clock support from professional instructors. You’ll severely regret it if you don’t follow this rule rigidly. Many only provide email support (too slow), and phone support is usually just a call-centre that will make some notes and then email an advisor – who will then call back sometime over the next 24hrs, at a suitable time to them. This is no use if you’re sitting there confused over an issue and only have a specific time you can study.
Top training companies utilise several support facilities from around the world. They use an online interactive interface to provide a seamless experience, any time of the day or night, there is always help at hand, avoiding all the delays and problems. Don’t ever make the mistake of taking second best when it comes to your support. Most IT hopefuls that give up, would have had a different experience if they’d got the right support package in the first place.
Usually, trainers will provide a shelf full of reference manuals. It’s not a very interesting way to learn and not a very good way of studying effectively. If we’re able to involve all our senses in the learning process, then we normally see dramatically better results.
Fully interactive motion videos with demonstrations and practice sessions will beat books every time. And you’ll find them fun and interesting. It makes sense to see some examples of the kind of training materials you’ll be using before you make your decision. Always insist on videoed instructor demonstrations and audio-visual elements backed up by interactive lab’s.
Opt for physical media such as CD or DVD ROM’s every time. You can then avoid all the difficulties of internet connection failure and issues with signal quality.
Workshop days can be offered as a strong aspect by many training schools. After talking to most computer industry students who’ve attended a few, you’ll discover that they’re really a difficulty to be ‘got round’ mainly due to the following:
* All the travelling required – many journeys and sometimes hundreds of miles each time.
* Requesting constant holidays or time off – most trainers can only give weekday availability and link several days together. This is generally difficult for those of us who work for a living, and this is made worse if travelling time is added into the mix.
* Usually, we discover 4 weeks annual leave doesn’t go very far. Use up a big chunk of this for educational classes and you’ll experience even more problems.
* Classes can fill up very quickly and can be very crammed in.
* Maybe you like to work at a slower or quicker pace than the rest of the class. Sometimes this causes tension in the class.
* Calculate the increasing cost of all the travel, fares, accommodation, parking and food and you could be in for a major shock. Attendees mention extra costs of between several hundred and a couple of thousand pounds. Take some time to add it all up – and understand where they’re coming from.
* Maintaining the privacy of our training can be very important to quite a lot of students. There’s no need to give up potential advancement, wage increases or success in your job just because you’re retraining. When your boss discovers you’ve committed to certification in a completely different market, how will they regard you?
* Most of us avoid posing questions in a class full of other attendees – because none of us wants to look like we don’t understand.
* It’s a fact; classes become basically unreachable, where you live or work away from home for part of your week or month.
Why not just watch and gain knowledge from industry specialists one-to-one in ready-made classes, doing them at a time that’s convenient for you and you alone. Study can happen anywhere that suits. If you’ve got a laptop, you could catch some sun in your garden while you work. Any difficulties and make use of the 24×7 support. Lessons and modules can be repeated if you need to – the more times you cover something – the more you’ll remember. And you don’t have to worry about any note-taking – everything is already laid on for you. Although this doesn’t suddenly avoid each and every issue, it surely removes stress and makes things simpler. Plus you’ve got less hassle, costs and travel.
Being a part of the information technology industry is amongst the most electrifying and revolutionary industries that you could be a part of. Being a member of a team working on breakthroughs in technology means you’re a part of the huge progress affecting everyone who lives in the 21st century. Computer technology and connections through the web is going to noticeably shape our lives over the coming years; incredibly so.
And it’s worth remembering that typical remuneration in the IT industry across the UK is noticeably higher than in the rest of the economy, so in general you’ll most likely gain significantly more as a trained IT professional, than you’d get in most other industries. Experts agree that there’s a significant country-wide demand for trained and qualified IT technicians. Also, with the constant growth in the marketplace, it appears this will be the case for years to come.
